Jesus Casting out Demons

by Pastor Dennis

The Bible, in the New Testament, shows Jesus casting out demons. If Jesus cast out demons then there is nothing wrong with Christians in the New Testament Church casting out demons. We are supposed to imitate the ministry of Jesus Christ as He was and is our example. There is nothing wrong with having your favorite Bible teacher, Pastor or Bishop, however, Jesus is the One that we are supposed to ultimately follow.

Not only was Jesus able to cast out demons but so were his disciples.

The following scripture show that power of Jesus and His ability to cast out demons and that the demons were ALWAYS subject to Him. But the Bible shows that they were also subject to the disciples.

Matthew 8:16 …they brought to Him [Jesus] many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick

Mark 1:23-27 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are — the Holy One of God!” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He [Jesus] commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

How to know the Character of Demons

Before a Christian or minister starts to cast out demons, there must be some type of knowledge of the demons’ character and how demons act. Demons will go in the name of Jesus whether we know about there character or not, however, a Christian should know by the word of God, the correct way to get the victory over the power of Satan.  Listed here are 5 characteristics of demons.

1. They are known to harass:

Christians have been known to report that they are being “harassed by demons”. Demons are sent by Satan for the sole purpose of “killing, stealing and destroying a Christian’s life. Satan is already destroying a Non- Christian’s life so there is no fight there. The warfare is against a Christian because the enemy knows that a Christian belongs to Jesus.

The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12: For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

2. They produce spiritual slaves:

The Bible says we did not receive the spirit of bondage to fear in Romans 8:15.
So as Christians must stand against the Devil when he tries us to capture us in bondage. There are many bondages that a Christian can be captured by. A few of them are: cigarettes, alcohol, drugs (even prescription drugs), gossip and slander, lying, viewing pornography and other things that may cause a Christian to act compulsively.

3. They will tempt and seduce

The Bible says in James 1:14-15: That a person is tempted when they are drawn away by their desires and enticed (or tempted). Then when desire has conceived, it bringeth forth sin and sin when full grown will bring forth death. (James 1:14-15).

The crucifixion or putting to death of the flesh is the job of each and every Christian. The Christian can allow the door to be open by yielding to temptation in their lives. For example, if the Lord gives you the victory over smoking cigarettes, you must be able to rise up against the temptation to smoke (especially after a meal). This is accomplished by speaking to the temptation in the name of Jesus and saying to the actual thought “I bind you in the name of Jesus and you will not make me smoke in Jesus name.”

Beware of the spirit of Haughtiness and Pride

Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall…” Proverbs 16:18

Lucifer became so filled with pride and said: “I will be like the most High” in Isaiah 14:14. Lucifer fell from one of the most beautiful of the Lord’s angels to the lowest pit of Hell.

The spirit of haughtiness and pride would like to keep us from becoming the new creations in Christ that the Lord intended us to be. We must submit ourselves to the Lord in order for Him to be able to make us into the person that He intended us to be.

Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ can not do things our way in a proud, self-made, person of the world sort of way. Once that we receive the Lord as our Saviour we must submit ourselves to Him everyday. When we concentrate on “I” then that would leave us depending on ourselves rather than depending on the Lord.

We should not be deceived by the appearance of success of a person. In many cases, behind this outer impression there may be a history of drugs, alcohol, broken relationships, health problems and other maladies. This is all because there is not true success apart from being in the will of God.

The Substance of Things Hoped For is Faith

Without faith it will be impossible to please the Lord. Faith will come and increase as we read and study the Bible. Faith cannot be conjured up. Moreover, faith must be cultivated by a relationship with the Lord through His Word.

Faith is a belief in the unseen

  • 2 Cor 4:18: We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.. which are eternal..
  • 2 Cor 5:7: We walk by faith, not by sight
  • Heb 11:27: By faith he…. endured, as seeing Him Who is invisible

Faith is important and real

  • Heb 11:1: Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen

We are saved by Faith

  • Jn 3:16: Whosoever believeth in Him (Jesus) should have everlasting life
  • Jn 3:36: He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life
  • Lk 7:47-50: Thy sins are forgiven. They faith hath save thee
  • Acts 10:43b: Whoever believeth in Him… receive remission of sins
  • Acts 16:31: Believe on… Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved
  • Rom 5:1: Being justified by faith , we have peace with God
  • Gal 3:26: Ye are all children of God by faith in Christ Jesus
  • Eph 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith

The Bible says that we must “put off “the works of the flesh”.

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand, let us therefore put off the works of darkness, (Romans 13:13)

The Bible also talks about a person being ignorant to Satan’s devices. We as Christians have the Word of God as our guide and we “should not be ignorant of Satan’s devices”.

2 Cor 2:11: Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

The Word of God speaks of two types of Lives. The first type is the Natural Life or Bios. Bios makes reference to our natural and earthly life here on this earth. The Bible also referes to Zoe which refers to the resurrection or eternal life that Jesus us when we commit our lives to him.

John 14:6: Jesus said: I am the way the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.

The Word of God also talks about three types of people:

The Natural person

  • He is unsaved
  • Has the adamic nature
  • Cannot discern spiritual things and does not want to hear them
  • Everything about the natural man is opposed to the ways of God

The Carnal person

  • Lives a life of the world
  • Jesus is Saviour but not Lord
  • Not interested in spiritual or eternal things
  • Not interested in serving the Lord

2 Cor 10:4-5: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

“For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envy ing, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” 1 Cor 3:3

Know the power of Jesus

by Pastor Dennis

A Christian must keep their fear of the Lord.

“So will they fear the name of the Lord from the west and east. Is glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift a standard against Him, (Isa. 59:1).

A Christian also must know that they can be free to live in freedom. Freedom from all types of maladies such as : panic, envy, hatred, pride, self-pity addictions, bondages, oppressions, and tortures.

We must get to the root cause of these problems in the Christian’s life.

One of the main points that is associated with these maladies is what the Bible calls the flesh. We can also often know this as the “Old man”. This refers to the part of man that is the person’s flesh. The part of the person that is rebellious and wants to do its own will rather than the will of God and is open to be influenced by the Devil.

The other point is that this influence can also come from the influence of evil spirits. The demons will hook themselves to a person’s flesh and mind. When this happens, the demons must be forced to leave by the authority of the name of Jesus. Christians must know that the Devil is our enemy and does not want to be discovered. He does not have to bother the people in the world because he already has them in his control.Sometimes Christians want to try and ignore this part of the Bible and not incorporate these Biblical principals into their lives. The Bible says that “my people perish for a lack of knowledge”. Many will choose to remain tormented than to acknowledge the influence of evil spirits in their lives. Some will even blame it on all types of ideas and fallacies rather than to get right to the meat of the Bible and call it what it is.Every problem is NOT the devil. Yes, some of the Christian’s problems will come from their willfulness to sin. We as Christians must devote our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ in submission to His will and not our own.

The Spiritual Authority of the Lord Jesus Christ is needed to cast out demons. The only ones that possess this authority is Bible believing Christians. The Bible shows that ALL Bible believing Christians have this authority to use the name of Jesus to cast out demons. This Spiritual Authority is exercised by a spoken command using the name of Jesus.

Jesus gave all believers an exhortation in John 20:21: Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. We are sent to do the same works as Jesus in John 14:12: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. Moreover, we were invested with this authority to do the work of the ministry in Mark 13:34: For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Using our authority in the name of Jesus Christ is what causes the demons to move. The scriptures in Mark 1:27 says that they were amazed when they saw Jesus using authority to cast out the unclean spirits. The Bible says that the spirits obeyed the word of the Lord. In Luke 4:35 the Bible shows that Jesus was unafraid to speak the word and see the demons move and flee.

Luke 4:35-37: And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. 36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

Luke 10:17-19: The disciples returned to Jesus and said : “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power (translates to AUTHORITY) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Newness of life is becoming a new creation or a new creature in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says that: 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

This scripture is basically saying that a Christian should not behave themselves the same way that was done in their life before Christ. There should be a newness of spirit.

Romans 7:6: But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

We are challenged in the Word of God to put on a whole new garment or wardrobe. This wardrobe should match the new life that is in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Col. 3:12–17 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Spiritual Growth

by Pastor Dennis

The Word of God in 2 Peter 1:3-8 shows us spiritual growth.

2 Peter 1:3-8 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So from these scriptures we can see that spiritual growth comes from :

  • an increase in understanding and knowledge of the Word of God
  • seeking to stop sinning
  • increase in Christian character
  • increase in faith in God through the filling up of the Word of God

Spiritual growth will happen when we have a true relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word. Through the Power and Ministry of the Holy Spirit we will increase our relationship with Jesus and experience the growth in the Spirit that we deserve. We should seek the Lord for sound Biblical teaching of an experienced Bible teacher. We should not place ourselves under just anyone. We should not even look at the crowd of people that are gathered inside of a physical church. These are not the prerequisites that will cause us to be in the vein of the truth.
