Requirements for Keeping Your Deliverance

1. Every area of the believer’s life must be yielded to the Lordship of Christ.

John 1:11-12: He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Matthew 7:21-23: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

2. The Believer must continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 5:18: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Romans 8:13: For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

3. Line your life up to the Word of God

Luke 11:13: If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Matt 4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Matt 4:7,11: Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Ephesians 6:17: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

4. Put on the Whole Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.5. Renew your mind through the Word 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2 Cor 10:3-5 or though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Romans 8:5-7 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Col 3:1-2: If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

5. Always pray in the Spirit

Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

1 Cor 14:14,15: For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

6. Be in an attitude of praise daily

Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Isaiah 60:18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

7. Cultivate relationships that are Godly

Matthew 18:15-20 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. 18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
1John 1:7:But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1 John 2:9-11 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. 10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

8. Cultivate a faith that is dynamic and strong

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Mark 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

Luke 8:18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

9. Speak the Word of God daily (out loud)

Heb 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Heb 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

10. Make obedience to the Lord a top priority of your Christian walk. If you fail confess to Jesus and ask Him to make you stronger.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Don’t fall under condemnation but stay under the conviction of the Holy Ghost

11. Jesus Christ has to be the center of your life

John 12:31-32 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

12. Crucify the flesh, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

13. Avoid bad influences in your life, especially those from the past.

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

The Bible, in the New Testament, shows Jesus casting out demons. If Jesus cast out demons then there is nothing wrong with Christians in the New Testament Church casting out demons. We are supposed to imitate the ministry of Jesus Christ as He was and is our example. There is nothing wrong with having your favorite Bible teacher, Pastor or Bishop, however, Jesus is the One that we are supposed to ultimately follow.

Not only was Jesus able to cast out demons but so were his disciples.

The following scripture show that power of Jesus and His ability to cast out demons and that the demons were ALWAYS subject to Him. But the Bible shows that they were also subject to the disciples.

Matthew 8:16 …they brought to Him [Jesus] many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick

Mark 1:23-27 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are — the Holy One of God!” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He [Jesus] commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

Matthew 8:28-33 When He [Jesus] had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?” Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine.” And He said to them, “Go.” So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water. Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.

Mark 3:15,16 Then He [Jesus] appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons:

Matthew 10:1 And when He [Jesus] had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

Mark 6:7 And He [Jesus] called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.

The Body of Christ should always incorporate the full gospel in their ministry to the saints.

Beware of the spirit of Haughtiness and Pride

Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall…” Proverbs 16:18

Lucifer became so filled with pride and said: “I will be like the most High” in Isaiah 14:14. Lucifer fell from one of the most beautiful of the Lord’s angels to the lowest pit of Hell.

The spirit of haughtiness and pride would like to keep us from becoming the new creations in Christ that the Lord intended us to be. We must submit ourselves to the Lord in order for Him to be able to make us into the person that He intended us to be.

Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ can not do things our way in a proud, self-made, person of the world sort of way. Once that we receive the Lord as our Saviour we must submit ourselves to Him everyday. When we concentrate on “I” then that would leave us depending on ourselves rather than depending on the Lord.

We should not be deceived by the appearance of success of a person. In many cases, behind this outer impression there may be a history of drugs, alcohol, broken relationships, health problems and other maladies. This is all because there is not true success apart from being in the will of God.

A Christian must know that our own righteousness is as filthy rags according to the Word of God. Additionally we must know that we can do nothing unless we are strengthened and anointed by the Spirit of the Living God. Jesus said in the Word of God that He was meek and lowly of heart. Those words did not mean that He was weak. Jesus knew how to drive the moneychangers out of the temple and He never lost in any of His discussions with the Pharisees.

We must say like Jesus said in John 5:30: that “I can of myself do nothing.. I seek not my own will but the will of the Father that sent me”.

The Bible says that we must “put off “the works of the flesh”.

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand, let us therefore put off the works of darkness, (Romans 13:13)

The Bible also talks about a person being ignorant to Satan’s devices. We as Christians have the Word of God as our guide and we “should not be ignorant of Satan’s devices”.

2 Cor 2:11: Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

The Word of God speaks of two types of Lives. The first type is the Natural Life or Bios. Bios makes reference to our natural and earthly life here on this earth. The Bible also referes to Zoe which refers to the resurrection or eternal life that Jesus us when we commit our lives to him.

John 14:6: Jesus said: I am the way the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.

The Word of God also talks about three types of people:

The Natural person

He is unsaved

Has the adamic nature

Cannot discern spiritual things and does not want to hear them

Everything about the natural man is opposed to the ways of God

The Carnal person

Lives a life of the world

Jesus is Saviour but not Lord

Not interested in spiritual or eternal things

Not interested in serving the Lord

2 Cor 10:4-5: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

“For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envy ing, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” 1 Cor 3:3

And last but not least.. The Sprirtual Person

Saved but also wants Jesus as Master

Uses this life to bring glory to the Kingdom of the Lord

Wants to exalt Jesus and be like Him

Has a gradual change in life to be more like Christ

“Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, and holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5)

A Christian must keep their fear of the Lord.

“So will they fear the name of the Lord from the west and east. Is glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift a standard against Him, (Isa. 59:1).

A Christian also must know that they can be free to live in freedom. Freedom from all types of maladies such as : panic, envy, hatred, pride, self-pity addictions, bondages, oppressions, and tortures.

We must get to the root cause of these problems in the Christian’s life.

One of the main points that is associated with these maladies is what the Bible calls the flesh. We can also often know this as the “Old man”. This refers to the part of man that is the person’s flesh. The part of the person that is rebellious and wants to do its own will rather than the will of God and is open to be influenced by the Devil.

The other point is that this influence can also come from the influence of evil spirits. The demons will hook themselves to a person’s flesh and mind. When this happens, the demons must be forced to leave by the authority of the name of Jesus. Christians must know that the Devil is our enemy and does not want to be discovered. He does not have to bother the people in the world because he already has them in his control.Sometimes Christians want to try and ignore this part of the Bible and not incorporate these Biblical principals into their lives. The Bible says that “my people perish for a lack of knowledge”. Many will choose to remain tormented than to acknowledge the influence of evil spirits in their lives. Some will even blame it on all types of ideas and fallacies rather than to get right to the meat of the Bible and call it what it is.Every problem is NOT the devil. Yes, some of the Christian’s problems will come from their willfulness to sin. We as Christians must devote our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ in submission to His will and not our own.

Romans 6:6-11: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Please do not try to cast our the flesh or crucify an evil spirit ! We as Bible-believing Christians must do this God’s way.

The Spiritual Authority of the Lord Jesus Christ is needed to cast out demons. The only ones that possess this authority is Bible believing Christians. The Bible shows that ALL Bible believing Christians have this authority to use the name of Jesus to cast out demons. This Spiritual Authority is exercised by a spoken command using the name of Jesus.

Jesus gave all believers an exhortation in John 20:21: Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. We are sent to do the same works as Jesus in John 14:12: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. Moreover, we were invested with this authority to do the work of the ministry in Mark 13:34: For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Using our authority in the name of Jesus Christ is what causes the demons to move. The scriptures in Mark 1:27 says that they were amazed when they saw Jesus using authority to cast out the unclean spirits. The Bible says that the spirits obeyed the word of the Lord. In Luke 4:35 the Bible shows that Jesus was unafraid to speak the word and see the demons move and flee.

Luke 4:35-37: And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. 36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

Luke 10:17-19: The disciples returned to Jesus and said : “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power (translates to AUTHORITY) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Every Bible believing Christian is seated in heavenly places with the Lord Jesus Christ and has authority in the realms of the spirit. We must recognize our position in the Lord Jesus Christ in order to be able to move in this authority. The demons don’t move because we are a Pastor, Evangelist, Bishop or Elder. The demons are subject only to the name of Jesus Christ. For this reason the smallest pew sitter is big in the kingdom of the Lord as we use His name in Spiritual Authority.

Eph 2:6: And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus

Mark 13:34: For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

We use The Name of Jesus

The disciples cast out demons through His name.

Luke 10:17-19: The disciples returned to Jesus and said : “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

The early church used the name of Jesus

Acts 16:18: And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

We as believers are to do the same in the name of Jesus.

Mark 16:17, “these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils.”

<itunes:summary>Christians must seek to build faith by reading the Word of God. A solid understanding of the Word of God is needed when attempting to function in the ministry of healing the sick, casting out demons and when moving in the speaking authority over the powers of darkness.

The following are elements to be considered prior to the Deliverance ministry:

Rights to be there:When going through the Deliverance Ministry, we must consider the things in a person’s life that could give a demon or evil spirit the right to be there. Some of the issues to be considered are:

Sins that may not have been confessed

Soul ties

Not being able to forgive person/persons

Occult possessions (jewelry, statues etc.)

We must remove the rights of these demons through repentance, renouncing ,and granting forgiveness wherever applicable.

Bondage/Stongholds: We must guard our minds. Demons can have a field day and we will consider what we are thinking as our thoughts when they will belong to the powers of darkness. Other issues are feeling guilty or considering the Lord to be upset with you when this is not the case. We also must consider habits such as smoking, drinking, fornication, watching pornography and other types of similar activity. The Lord sees us as His children and wants us to be free.

Interview with the person to receive deliverance: The crux of the Deliverance ministry depends on the discerning of spirits, however, during a deliverance session the subject that is receiving deliverance will receive a lot more freedom if honesty is practiced. Sometimes issues will come to the ministry of the person which can be relayed to the minister. This type of information is essential (along with the discerning of spirits) to get a person free. These activities include: rapes, molestations, traumas, abuses, rejections and other activities that will come to mind.

Casting out Demons: This is the final part of the ministry. The demons are confronted and commanded in the name of Jesus to leave. If all preliminary parts of the ministry are completed and the person has been sincere and honest to the best of their knowledge, then the demons will leave relatively easily. Keep in mind that deliverance is a process and there may have to be several sessions to bring a person to total freedom.

Those that have been redeemed by the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and are saved by His Grace, have been given authority in Jesus Christ and to use His name. Jesus gave his disciples this authority when He walked the earth and all believers. This authority is for casting out demons, healing the sick and to preach (Matt 10:1, Mark 16:17-18). Jesus said: “And these signs will follow them that believe”. This authority operates because of the work that Jesus has already completed. We can look at a few scriptures in which Jesus gives this authority:

Luke 10:17, “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”

Mark 16:17, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…”

Acts 3:6, “…Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”

We must consider this an honor to be able to use the name of Jesus! This is the most powerful name in the universe and His name is above every name.

Examples of Jesus’ Authority

Jesus exercised authority that was unique from anyone else throughout all time!

Jesus cast out demons with the power of His Word: Matt 8:16: “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word…”

We see Jesus casting out demons using His Authority in Mark 1:27:”And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.”

Jesus even healed the sick using the spoken Word in Luke 7:7:”Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.”Also John 5:8, “Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.”

Jesus has been given all authority in Matt 28:18:”And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

The authority that Jesus has delegated to us is completed by our spoken word. Proverbs says: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Throughout a deliverance meeting/session and before the meeting the person receiving deliverance must be honest with the person that is performing the ministry of casting out demons. The Holy Spirit will be working with the person receiving and the person performing the ministry. The honesty will cause the demons to become weak in their stronghold over the person receiving ministry. One of the legal grounds of a demon is for the person to walk in agreement with the spirit that is being called out. Be completely open with the person performing the deliverance so that your deliverance can be smooth, complete and performed quickly.

If you experience pain in your body while receiving deliverance you should quickly advise the minister so that this can be dealt with in the spirit realms. This pain could indicate that a spirit is active and manifesting in your body. Some other feelings and manifestations could include but not limited to:

Headaches

cramps

wild emotions

confusion

anger

rebellion

These are just a few examples of feelings and issues that may be going on during your deliverance. These are normally connected with spirits. Most of the times, a seasoned deliverance minister will detect these things through the discerning of spirits. However, there is nothing wrong with advising the minister of these feelings. You will experience different things while receiving deliverance. In extreme cases of delieverance, we have even seen spirits talk through people. A deliverance minister should not engage in long conversations with demons due to the fact that they do not tell the truth anyhow.

The person receiving ministry must realize that a complete deliverance may take several sessions to accomplish. If you feel that you have committed sin or indulged in something that may have caused a spirit to re-enter after a session of deliverance, you should be totally honest with the minister and tell them. This type of honesty will loosen the hold of the demons and will cause them to be able to come out quicker and with less force. In other words, your freedom is dependent mostly upon your cooperation with the minister and with Jesus. If you withold information when asked, the demons know this and will not come out, because you are walking in agreement with them.

Remember, there is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit. Do everything your minister tells you to do ,stay away from sin at all costs and your freedom will come much quicker!
